The online conference features the participation of representative from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, Consulate General of Vietnam in Nanning (China), and Guangxi Province (China).
Black jelly is an indigenous tree that has been grown in Lang Son Province for a long time; in which, an area of 2,000 - 3,000 hectares is concentrated in the districts of Trang Dinh, Binh Gia and Van Lang. In 2021, the output of black jelly plants will reach 16,000 tonnes with an area of more than 3,000 hectares.
Black jelly has been included in the list of local staple crops by Lang Son Province; and was granted a collective certification mark by the National Office of Intellectual Property under the Ministry of Science and Technology. The Department of Crop Production under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development granted a new plant variety protection certificate to black jelly plants in Trang Dinh District.
In addition to the domestic market, Lang Son black jelly is also being exported raw to major markets such as China, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Republic of Korea, accounting for about 70% of the province's total output. Particularly for the Chinese market, in the eight months of 2021, over 1,200 tonnes Lang Son Province's back jelly was exported, with a total turnover of about US$2 million.
However, according to the assessment of professional agencies, the development of black jelly plant of Lang Son is facing some difficulties in promoting and introducing products. The harvesting and preservation is still conducted manually, without the application of many machines.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien assessed, for black jelly, the largest market is China. The conference is a great opportunity to promote and export black jelly production the coming time. Localities growing black jelly, including Lang Son Province, need to continue to organise production and planting effectively; pay attention to area planning, strengthening traceability, and planting area codes; and encourage the development of a chain of links to consume black jelly products.
The conference has suggested solutions, answered recommendations and problems of some domestic and foreign enterprises related to the production and processing of products and export of black jelly in the area.
Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee Ho Tien Thieu expressed his hope that the exchange contents would be realised by specific programmes and actions.
Lang Son Province is committed to always accompany and support maximum, promptly remove difficulties for enterprises participating in investment, development, production and trade of black jelly products in the area.
