The 2022 Vietnamese specialty coffee contest was launched on October 22, 2021. To date, six months since its launch, the contest has attracted 48 contestants with 83 coffee samples, including 53 Robusta coffee samples and 30 Arabica coffee samples, from seven provinces and cities producing coffee in the country.

In the preliminary round, the assessment of the quality took place from April 22-27. It is expected that the final round, presentation of awards and closing ceremony will take place on April 30.

Trinh Duc Minh, Chairman of Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Association, Standing Deputy Head of the Competition Organising Committee, said that after the launching ceremony, Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Association organised training courses of coffee processing to create a source for farmers to make specialty coffee with the sample volume larger than previous years.

This year, the competition gathered 22 judges from 6 different countries.

This is the fourth time the specialty coffee contest has taken place, with the aim to honour coffee growers, specialty coffee products and coffee producers who meet specialty standards while introducing Vietnamese specialty green coffee products to consumers and roasters both at home and abroad.

In addition, through the contest, the organisers want to directly connect roasters with specialty coffee producers; aiming to develop the market, stimulate consumption, and increase the value of Vietnamese specialty coffee as well as create motivation for coffee growers to become more interested in upgrading the quality of coffee.
