Seaports unload first cargo of 2014

Nhan Dan Online – Seaports across the nation started their first working day in 2014 with hundreds of thousands of tonnes of cargo handled.

Cai Lan Port, in the northern province of Quang Ninh, received four cargo vessels and processed nearly 145,000 tonnes of goods on January 1.

Da Nang Port handled its first cargo vessel of 2014, the Pacific Express from Singapore.

Nguyen Thu, director of Da Nang Port Company said that, for the first time, the port handled a total of 5 million tonnes of goods in 2013, a year on year increase of 13.26%. It also welcomed 102 cruise ships with over 116,000 tourists on board, a twofold increase over 2012.

Earlier, on the night of December 31, Hai Phong Port celebrated its first shipment of 2014. The port unloaded 400 containers of imports and loaded 450 containers of exports onto the Panamanian vessel Soga.

According to Hai Phong Port General Director Nguyen Hung Viet, the port handled 18.8 million tonnes of goods in 2013, equivalent to 101.6% of the target. It made VND142 billion in profit, an increase of 13% from 2012.

In the year 2014, Hai Phong Port has set a target of loading and unloading 19.5 million tonnes of cargo.
