January sees newly established enterprises up 21.2%

The number of newly established enterprises in January was 8,320, a year-on-year increase of 21.2%, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

These enterprises have total registered capital of VND59.3 trillion (US$2.67 billion), up 87% over the same month of 2015, and plan to employ around 124,000 workers.

In January, 4,872 enterprises resumed operations, up 69.6% year on year and marking the first month of the year with the largest number of companies going back to business over the past several years.

The same month saw a 34.7% rise in dissolved enterprises at 1,338, most of which were small businesses with capital of less than VND10 billion (US$450,000).

The number of struggling enterprises forced to close temporarily also rose by 27.5% to 12,456, the GSO reported.
