According to Alfredco Huesca, the LCT general manager, the sea routes will be operated through an alliance between TradeLink Pacifico and Kansas City Southern de Mexico (KCSM) rail companies.
Export from Houston, the United States, to Vietnam will be sent to Lazaro Cardenas by train before being transported to Vietnam by sea, Huesca said, adding that this route is at least 18 days faster than traditional routes through Long Beach or the Panama Canal.
The new route from Houston to the port of San Antonio, Chile that passes through Lazaro Cardenas will cut the time of transit by 5 - 13 days and save the cost of transfer by up to 10 percent compared to the route via the Panama Canal.
Lazaro Cardenas, one of the largest seaports in the Pacific Ocean basin, is operated by Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH). It is the largest container port in Mexico in terms of capacity and efficiency with a modern infrastructure that enables the movement of two million TEUs in an area of 76 hectares.
