The government leader made the requirement while chairing a national conference to discuss solutions to promote business investment in the agricultural sector, held in Da Lat city, the capital of the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, on July 30.

Reports from government agencies at the event showed that currently, there are approximately 49,600 enterprises investing in agriculture, accounting for 8% of the total number of enterprises nationwide. However, businesses investing in the sector are mainly small and micro-sized, while the investment capital only accounts for 8-10% of the total, which is still limited and not on a par with the Vietnamese agricultural potential.

Affirming that Vietnamese agriculture has great potential and opportunities that can be exploited, especially in the fourth Industrial Revolution, the PM urged the Government and the business community to work together to push Vietnam up into the leading position around the globe in terms of agricultural products.

PM Phuc stressed that it is necessary to further improve the productivity of rural labour by reorganising production, applying scientific and technological advances and reorganising the market. Growth and labour productivity in agriculture and rural areas is still great, he said, urging the need to promote it through favourable institutions, policies and laws.

He asked the authorities at all levels to focus on implementing drastic, comprehensive and effective solutions, focusing on improving the effectiveness of the implementation of investment encouragement policies in agriculture and renovating mechanisms to support enterprises in market expansion.

It is also necessary to promote the accumulation and concentration of land in service of large-scale agricultural development and the application of high technologies, while continuing to reform administrative procedures and effectively implement credit incentive policies and appropriate tax adjustments, as well as improving the quality of human resources for agriculture.

The PM assigned the relevant ministries, agencies and the Government Office to promptly complete the draft resolution by the Government on promoting enterprises to invest in the agricultural sector with a specific roadmap and solutions for early issuance.

He took the occasion to call on the business community and Vietnamese entrepreneurs to promote creativity and the start-up spirit for sustainable development, in addition to strengthening cooperation and joint efforts to bring Vietnamese agricultural products to the international market.
