China’s Guangxi urged to facilitate exports of Vietnamese products to China

Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue has asked China’s Guangxi province to continue creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese key products to enter the Chinese market.

The Vietnamese senior official made the suggestion during a meeting with Lu Xinshe, the Chinese Party Secretary of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, in the region’s capital city of Nanning on September 11.

Deputy PM Hue, who is a Politburo member, is on a visit to Nanning to attend the 15th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) and the 15th China-ASEAN Business-Investment Summit (CABIS).

He expressed his pleasure at the flourishing cooperation between Vietnamese localities and Guangxi that has brought about important achievements and practical benefits for both sides. He affirmed that Guangxi has maintained its place as China’s number one locality for economic and trade cooperation with Vietnam, while Vietnam has been the largest trading partner of Guangxi for the past 14 years.

In 2017, two-way trade between Vietnam and Guangxi reached US$24 billion, accounting for 86% of ASEAN's total imports and exports with Guangxi, more than 30% of the total trading turnover between Vietnam and China, and 40% of the total import-export turnover of Guangxi in general.

He suggested that Guangxi continue create more favourable conditions for Vietnam’s strong products, such as milk and dairy products, fruits, seafood, and pork, to enter the Chinese market, while supporting the transit of goods by rail across Guangxi and other parts of China to other Eurasian nations.

Deputy PM Hue urged the Chinese province to facilitate an easy process of customs clearance for goods in the border areas, including upgrading and opening more border gates and increasing working hours at these gates, even on Saturdays and especially during high season, to reduce cargo congestion.

He also asked Guangxi to strengthen cooperation on border management and cross-border crime prevention related to smuggling, child trafficking and illegal entry and exit.

Secretary of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region’s Party Committee, Lu Xinshe, thanked Deputy PM Hue for his support for the 15th CAEXPO and CABIS. He affirmed the importance of traditional friendship and cooperation between Guangxi and the Vietnamese ministries, sectors and localities.

Secretary Lu expressed his wish to cooperate with the concerned localities of Vietnam in fully realising the shared outlook of the two countries' leaders, strengthening the visits of senior leaders, and promoting exchanges on projects in infrastructure, as well as promoting economic cooperation, trade, people-to-people exchange and tourism to the further consolidate the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Vietnam.

After the meeting, Deputy PM Hue and Secretary Lu witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on establishing friendly cooperation relations between Vietnam’s Quang Nam province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Apart from Quang Nam, Guangxi now has friendly relations with 12 other Vietnamese provinces.
