More than 40 businesses from Ho Chi Minh City, which has set up twining ties with Leipzig city, are showcasing their products at the fair, including farm produce, handicrafts, food, leather and footwear.

At the opening ceremony, Sachsen-Anhalt state’s Governor Reiner Haselhoff and other German delegates spoke highly of relations between Germany and Vietnam in general and the two cities in particular.

Ho Chi Minh City and Leigpzig have cooperated in such areas as training, nursing, vocational training, clean water, electricity and energy.

As the main partner of the fair, Vietnam will have favourable conditions to enhance its economic links with Germany across fields, they said.

In his remarks, Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Nguyen Minh Vu said Vietnam’s participation in the event would help consolidate and deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The Leipzig Trade Fair, which will last until March 3, is one of the biggest and most successful consumer fairs in Germany, attracting about 1,000 firms from 20 countries and territories this year.
