Vietnam’s new businesses hit 5-year high

The number of newly established enterprises reached nearly 54,000 in the first five months of 2019, which is the highest figure in the last five years, according to the Statistics Office.

These enterprises injected VND669.7 trillion (US$28.8 billion) into the economy, up 29.6% over the same period of last year.

The total amount of capital poured into the economy would be nearly VND1.7 quadrillion (US$73.1 billion) if an additional VND987.4 trillion (US$42.5 billion) registered by existing companies was included.

The number of workers employed by new enterprises in the first five months of 2019 totalled 537,200, up 30.2% over the same period of 2018.

The January-May period also saw 19,600 enterprises returning to business, up 48.1% year on year.

It is noted that the number of enterprises filing for temporary closure in the first five months was 19,100, up 19.4% compared with the same period of last year.
