China (Guangdong) - Vietnam Import and Export Fair opens in Hanoi

The 2019 China (Guangdong) - Vietnam Import and Export Fair kicked off at the Hanoi International Centre for Exhibition in Hanoi on August 28.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai said that the fair is considered as a bridge to help businesses of the two countries to connect and seek cooperation opportunities in trade, investment, tourism. The event also contributes to strengthening cooperation between Vietnam and China in general and Vietnam with Guangdong province (China) in particular.

According to Deputy Minister Hai, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam acknowledges and highly appreciates the efforts of the Guangdong province’s government in organising import promotion activities of Vietnam's and Chinese strengths such as agriculture, seafood, processed food, cotton and garments.

The fair showcases machinery, electric equipment, electronics, LED and lighting technology, construction materials and furniture in addition, hi-tech products and accessories as well as garments, consumer goods and food.

Remarkably, more than 3,000 potential buyers also joined a business matching programme intended to open up new opportunities.

According to statistics of Vietnam Customs, in 2018, Vietnam - China trade turnover reached US$106.7 billion, up 13.5%. Particularly in the first six months of 2019, the bilateral trade turnover of the two countries reached US$52.36 billion, up 11.8%. China continues to be a major trading partner of Vietnam. There are currently 110 enterprises of Guangdong province investing in Vietnam and the number is expected to continue to increase.

In 2018, import and export turnover of Vietnam and Guangdong reached more than US$37 billion, accounting for a quarter of the total import and export turnover between Vietnam and China.

The fair runs until August 30.
