Saigon Hi-tech Park tops US$2 billion in total investment

Nhan Dan Online – The Saigon Hi-tech Park (SHTP) in Ho Chi Minh City has attracted over US$2.1 billion for 58 projects since its establishment 11 years ago, according to its management board.

Foreign companies have poured US$1.74 billion into 29 projects, while domestic businesses committed US$357 million for 29 projects.

Big-name investors in the SHTP include Intel, Nidec, Datalogics, Jabil and Sonion.

SHTP-based enterprises have grossed export revenue of US$6.2 billion and created jobs for 18,000 employees.

Investment attraction during the first nine months of 2013 was down 23% year on year, with US$120 million invested in five projects.

However, projects featuring high-tech research and development and high-quality human resources training still account for a large part of total investment.

The SHTP, located in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 9, has an area of 326 hectares and a 587-hectare expansion is planned.
