Vietnam’s overseas investment hits US$432 million in 2018

Vietnam’s total outbound investment in 2018 was estimated at US$432 million, according to the General Statistics Office.

Among the figure, US$376.2 million was poured into 149 new projects, while the remaining US$56 million was pledged to existing projects.

A breakdown of sectors shows that the banking and financial sector received the largest share of Vietnamese investment with US$105.8 million, equivalent to 24.5% of the total investment, followed by US$82.9 million in retail, wholesale and vehicle repair.

The agricultural sector received US$52.3 million (12.1%) and manufacturing US$52.1 million (12%).

Among the 38 countries and territories in which Vietnamese investors are present, Laos was the largest recipient with US$81.5 million, followed by Australia and the United States, which received US$55.5 million and US$53 million respectively.
