Dong Thap and Soc Trang provinces have a total longan-growing area of about 8,400 hectares, with an expected combined output of 78,000 in 2021, accounting for 12.24% of the country’s total fruit output.

At the event, participating businesses and cooperatives from the two provinces introduced their products, particularly those meeting the standards of the “One Commune-One Product” (OCOP) programme, and expressed their hopes to cooperate with partners from both inside and outside the province to boost product consumption and distribution.

According to Vu Thi Hau, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Retailers Association, the retail channel is a sustainable one for producers. She advised enterprises and cooperatives to identify beforehand their target channels in order to make the products best suited to that channel.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Quoc Toan, Director of the General Department for Agricultural Products Processing and Market Development under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, urged units to innovate their business functions in both sales and marketing in order to promote the consumption of their products.

He suggested business units promote their products not only via traditional channels such as supermarkets, wholesale markets, local markets, and stores selling farm produce but also via e-commerce platforms.

At the conference, three cooperation agreements on the distribution and consumption of the agricultural products of Soc Trang and Dong Thap provinces were inked.
