NDO - The vessel Synergy Busan, under the flag of Marshall Islands, with a capacity of over 50,000 tonnes and carrying more than 2,000 containers of Maersk Line, arrived at Cai Lan International Container Terminal (CICT Cai Lan) in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province, on September 14.

Quang Ninh authorities agreed to perform rapid COVID-19 testing for all crew members to help save time and facilitate the operation of the vessel.

Upon the arrival of the vessel, Cai Lan International Container Terminal Company unloaded 2,029 containers and loaded 359 cargo containers on board.

This is one of the two vessels that Maersk Line has trialled for docking at CICT Cai Lan this September in order to evaluate the economic efficiency with the aim to open an international container route through Cai Lan Port in the future.

The arrival of a vessel run by the world’s largest container shipping line is a positive signal for Quang Ninh to take advantage of its large deep-water port in the northern region.

General Director of Cai Lan International Container Terminal Company Frank Van Rompaey said that the company received MAERSK's container ships in the past because large ships cannot go to other ports in the area. This is an advantage that Quang Ninh should make use of to attract investment and create competition.

He also noted that Quang Ninh needs to rapidly develop its infrastructure system and production factories to create import and export demand such that more container goods will arrive the province.

If international container ship routes through Cai Lan Port can be formed with connection to major markets in the world, particularly Europe, the United States, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea and ASEAN, great opportunities for import and export will be opened, attracting investment and promoting production in the locality.
