According to Chairman Chu Ngoc Anh, the city is striving to successfully realise the dual goal of effective virus containment and economic growth.

Under a positive scenario, the capital city’s economy would contract 0.8% in the third quarter and expand 6.98% in the final three months, resulting in full-year growth of 4.54%.

But in a less optimistic scenario, full-year growth may only reach 3.97%, with the economy in the third quarter shrinking 0.98% and growing by 5.15% in the October-December period.

Anh shared at a meeting of the People’s Council on September 23 that the city will strive for the higher targets by introducing measures to support enterprises, cooperatives and household businesses and improve the business and investment climate.

With the regards to the fight against COVID-19, Hanoi will take appropriate measures to keep the virus in check, stand ready for a worse situation and protect the health of its citizens as the top priority.

Chairman Anh said the tasks in the remainder of the year are enormous with a great deal of challenges but the city will do its best to meet the set targets.
