The capital city has experienced two difficult phases of COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control in the past nine months but still implemented measures to restore the economy and ensure social security.

Hanoi’s economic growth in the nine-month period rose by 1.28% over the same period last year while the index of industrial production increased by 4.1%. The consumer price index also went up by 1.54% during the period.

Some economic sectors maintained decent growth, including finance and banking up 8.68%, information and communication up 6.34%, science and technology up 5.54%, and education and training up 4.26%.

In particular, healthcare and social assistance activities expanded by 28% due to the increase in need for medical examination and treatment, the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic and increasing resources for purchasing vaccines.

However, total retail sales of goods and services reached VND380 trillion, down 10.4% over the same period in 2020. Some sectors are still facing many difficulties such as tourism, culture and hotel services in addition to lower disbursement rates of public investment and low FDI attraction.

As the risk of the pandemic is still high, the city suggested its people and enterprises absolutely not lose vigilance against the pandemic. The city will make great efforts to implement the dual goal while concentrating on speeding up the disbursement of public investment, effectively managing and spending budget revenue and easing difficulties for enterprises.
