He made the remarks at the virtual conference on October 7 to announce the master plan on Vietnam’s seaport system in the 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050.

The Transport Ministry will propose the Government issue specific mechanisms for investors in this area while mobilising non-budget sources to invest in seaport infrastructure, creating a premise for socio-economic development, The noted.

The master plan on the development of Vietnam's seaport system in the 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050 was approved by the Prime Minister on September 22, helping to concretise the marine economic development strategy.

In particular, resources for seaport development in this period will be mainly mobilised from non-budget sources, accounting for 95% of the total VND313 trillion needed to invest in seaport system development.

“Seaport planning is an important and directional basis, but it is not constant but can still be adjusted, so the Ministry will continue to coordinate with localities in reviewing, building and developing seaports, helping to create a breakthrough in socio-economic development while at the same time rolling out a "red carpet" for investors,” Minister The noted.

According to Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Xuan Sang, the master plan has identified seaport system as an important part of maritime infrastructure, socio-economic infrastructure, and one of the three strategic breakthroughs that need synchronous investment to promote its advantage as the main means of transport for bulk cargo and an important means of transport in international freight transport.
