So far this year, Vietnam has achieved approximately 30% of its rice shipment target for the full year, which has been set at 7.5 million tonnes.
According to the VFA, 5% broken rice is sold for VND7,550 – 7,650 per kilogram while the same amount of 15% and 25% broken rice is priced at VND7,250 – 7,350 and VND7,050 – 7,150 respectively.
Market data shows that the global rice trade is stagnant at the moment due to abundant supplies from major rice exporters in the world.
According to the International Rice Research Institute, India, currently the world’s largest rice exporter, may ship only 7 million tonne of rice in 2013, down 32% from the record high of 10.25 million last year.
