The deputy PM made the request while chairing a February 19 meeting to review the project’s implementation.

He urged stakeholders to continue taking bold measures to remove obstacles, enabling the project’s completion in the shortest time possible.

Deputy PM Hai tasked the MoT with considering and working out implementation and financial plans based on the progress of sections of the project, while asking investors to work with localities and contractors to solve land clearance issues.

The highway project is currently underway in 11 phases under a BOT (built-operation-transfer) basis, with total investment capital of VND46.9 trillion (US$2.2 billion).

The 105.5km long and 33m wide roadway, which links Hanoi's Gia Lam district to Hai Phong’s Dinh Vu dam, will have six main lanes designed for a maximum speed of 120kph, and two emergency lanes.

Due for completion in late 2015, it is expected to give a boost to the country’s northern delta economy by raising traffic capacity along the Hanoi – Hai Phong route, as well as alleviating traffic congestion on National Highway 5.
