NDO/VNA – Institutional reform is a priority in Vietnam’s socio-economic development strategy for 2011-2020, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung told the annual conference of the Eastern Regional Organisation for Public Administration (EROPA) in Hanoi on October 20.

Focusing on the theme 'Public administration and governance in the context of regional and global integration', the PM said civil servants are crucial for the efficiency of the State administrative system.

Only when regulations are put in place properly does the State’s administration and governance run smoothly, he noted, adding that ensuring the transparency and accountability of public finances is indispensable for a modern administration.

Vietnam is implementing a thorough reform process with a view to developing a healthy and effective State administrative system, he informed an audience of international and domestic scientists and officials.

The Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Thai Binh, said in his opening speech that co-operation and consensus formed the basis of the EROPA’s success, as demonstrated by the establishment of a common ASEAN community in late 2015.

Participants discussed numerous issues, from personnel management and e-government to public administration reform in the context of the post-2015 agenda.

The conference is due to end on October 24.
