NDO/VNA – A forum highlighting green growth and sustainable economic development took place in Hanoi on October 24 with the participation of local managers and experts in the field.

Addressing the 2014 Vietnam Economic Forum, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Dang Huy Dong stressed the need to have discussions on issues relating to policies, national strategies, economic restructuring, and solutions for sustainable development.

At the annual event, participants underlined the significance of green growth, saying that it will contribute to solving requirements for sustainable growth and poverty reduction, ensuring equality in development opportunities and improving living conditions for all people.

Green growth must be based on an increase of investment for effectively preserving, developing and using natural resources, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting the environment, the forum heard.

Apart from discussing the Government’s policies and national strategies, the forum focused on economic restructuring in combination with growth model renovation in a more effective and sustainable manner, thus opening up big opportunities for Vietnam to advance towards green growth and a green economy.
