The project was formerly under the management of Do Luong Cement Company but later transferred to Vissai in December 2014.

In the first stage of completion from 2015 to 2017, the plant will have two production lines with a combined capacity of 12,000 tonnes of clinker residue per day, equivalent to around 4 million tonnes of cement per year.

A third production line will be added in the second phase from 2017 to 2020 with an additional capacity of 6,000 tonnes of clinker residue.

The Song Lam plant, which will cost an estimated VND10.5 trillion (US$493.5 million), is expected to create some 2,000 jobs over the next two years.

Its products include premium cement to be used in marine construction and projects of the national climate change response programme.
