BIDV expands investment in Cambodia

The Bank for Investment and Development of Cambodia (BIDC), a subsidiary of the Bank for Investment and Development Vietnam (BIDV) opened its eighth branch in Toul Kork district, Phnom Penh, Cambodia on May 25.

According to BIDC Director Nguyen Dinh Duong, BIDC began operations in September 2009 and has become one of the six leading commercial banks in Cambodia with total assets of over US$620 million.

BIDC and other subsidiaries of BIDV in the fields of insurance, securities and agriculture have actively participated in social activities in Cambodia which have provided roughly US$6 million for poverty reduction and improvements to living standards of the locals in Cambodia.

In recognition of BIDV and BIDC's contributions to Cambodia, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam An and Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia Chea Chanto granted the Royal Order of the Kingdom of Cambodia to 24 collectives and individuals of BIDV and BIDC on May 25.

To affirm its long-term operation in Cambodia, BIDV and BIDC held a groundbreaking ceremony on May 26 for the construction of a complex of housing and offices in Chbar Ampov district in Phnom Penh on an area of over 2ha. The facility is scheduled to begin operating in the first quarter of 2016.
