The workshop organised by the Party Economic Commission, the National Assembly’s Economic Committee, the World Bank and the National Economics University, aimed to report on the initial results of studies on the criterion system and collect ideas from academics, international organisations and relevant individuals in order to independently report to the Secretariat and the NA on the system, which will be applied in the future.

Addressing the workshop, Professor Vuong Dinh Hue, Ph.D., reiterated that the system is an organ of the socio-economic development plan and significant to the country’s socio-economic development.

The system will lay a foundation for the Party and State to devise socio-economic development plans, strategies and policies, and monitor and examine socio-economic development targets in each period, Hue added.

Participants reviewed the current system, stated its shortcomings and analysed the causes. They thoroughly discussed specific measures to the future system which boosts roles and responsibilities of relevant agencies, and improves the quality and effectiveness of statistic information, meeting the country’s development needs and reflecting the active international integration.

The workshop’s outcomes are expected to contribute to discussion and decisions on the revised Statistic Law, as well as improvements to the system to be applied in the future.
