She made the statement at the meeting with 40 delegates attending the workshop on environmental economics towards a green economy held on June 24.

Delegates briefed the Vice President on the results of the workshop which emphasised the need to convert the current 'brown' economy to a 'green' economy, protecting fuel and natural resources.

Vice President Doan said Vietnam has participated in many United Nations Conventions on environmental protection and climate change, but has focused on 'brown' economic development with less attention on the environment. 'Green' economic development will be an essential step for Vietnam in the current period of industrialisation and modernisation, she added.

She suggested enterprises update technology to produce environmentally friendly products to become 'green' enterprises that will contribute to boosting 'green' consumption.

The Vice President also had high hopes for scientists and researchers, conducting practical research and providing consulting for the government on 'green' economic development.
