Structural steel production went on to break the output record at over 627,700 tonnes – an increase of 1.5% over October and nearly 33% against 2014 – 593,000 tonnes of which were sold, up nearly 30% year on year.

During the first 11 months of 2015, VSA member companies produced more than 6.1 million tonnes of structural steel, accounting for a year-on-year increase of 30.1% - the highest surge compared to the average growth rate of products of this type in recent years.

The total consumption of construction steel reached approximately 5.9 million tonnes, representing a 24.3% rise against 2014.

The Vietnam Steel Corporation and the Hoa Phat Steel Joint Stock Company remained dominant on the domestic steel market with respective outputs of 1.35 and 1.27 million tonnes, accounting for over 43% of the market share.

The recovery of the domestic real estate market boosted consumption of steel products, VSA Vice President Nguyen Van Son said, adding that local enterprises were more proactive in the international integration process, enhancing their competitiveness through renovating techniques and reducing manufacturing costs.

Son asked authorised agencies to implement technical and trade barriers for import activities in order to resolve difficulties for domestic steel businesses. In addition to improving product quality and reducing prices, enterprises also need to enhance their knowledge on trade defence measures, he noted.
