NDO - The consumer price index (CPI) of Hanoi in February increased slightly by 0.47% compared to January, and by 1.73% against the same period last year despite the declines in oil and petrol prices.

According to the Hanoi Statistics Department, the CPI rise was attributed to the slight rise in the abundant supply of essential commodities.

The highest rise during the month was seen in the group of restaurants and food services, up 2.45% and 2.76%, respectively.

Food prices this month witnessed an increase of 3.34%, especially vegetables due to the prolonged cold weather in late January which affected about 500 hectares of vegetables in Hanoi.

Education and travel experienced price increases of 1.12% and 3.09%, respectively

Two groups of commodities that also saw a price increase were entertainment and travel due to the high demand after the Lunar New Year festival.

In the meantime, the prices of two groups of commodities went down compared to October - housing, tap water, fuel and building materials, down 0.62%; and transportation down 3.59%.

The prices of oil and petrol continued to go down on January 19, contributing to the decrease in the transportation category.
