Farming export revenues up 5.5% in first two months

Agricultural, fishery and forestry exports in February were estimated at US$1.88 billion, bringing the sector’s total revenue in the first two months of 2016 to US$4.2 billion, up 5.5% over the same period last year.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, revenues from major agricultural exports reached US$1.9 billion, up 4.2%; fisheries US$938 million, up 11.9% and forestry products US$1.1 billion, up 8.2%.

Rice export volume in February was estimated at 523,000 tonnes, earning US$228 million.

Indonesia was the largest buyer of Vietnamese rice in January with more than one quarter of Vietnam’s total rice shipments, followed by China whose rice imports from Vietnam fell 3.16% in volume and 7.56% in value.

Coffee exports in the first two months of the year were estimated at 295,000 tonnes, bringing in US$505 million in revenues.

During the same period, Vietnam shipped 128,000 tonnes of rubber, earning $143 million, up 24.6% year on year. China, India and Malaysia were the three largest importers of Vietnam’s rubber.

Fishery export revenues also went up 8.2% to nearly US$1.1 billion in the first two months of 2016.
