NDO - Trade counsellors must be a bridge between domestic enterprises and foreign markets, contributing to removing difficulties and seeking export markets for domestic enterprises.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the remarks at the Trade Counsellor Conference 2016 held by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in Hanoi on February 26.

The PM asked trade counsellors to undertake their tasks in their respective markets to help Vietnamese enterprises to take advantage of opportunities, remove trade barriers and limit anti-dumping lawsuits. At the same time, trade counsellors need to provide more information on foreign markets for domestic firms to protect rights and projects by Vietnamese firms abroad.

PM Dung also praised Vietnamese Trade Missions in more than 50 countries and trade counsellors for their positive operations in the past years, hoping that they will continue to promote such achievements to contribute to the people and country.

Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang said that the ministry has required all trade counsellors to make every effort to fulfil their assigned tasks, contributing to boosting foreign trade activities and export amid international economic integration.

Minister Hoang suggested trade counsellors contribute their ideas and proposals to the government to seek measures to improve their operations.

Within the framework of the conference, trade counsellors and commercial attachés held working sessions with the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, trade promotions centres, trade associations, enterprises and others to discuss co-operation mechanisms to attract foreign investment and promote the export of agricultural products.

Vietnam now has 56 Trade Missions and seven branches in more than 50 countries around the world with more than 600 trade promotion activities carried out in 2014 and 2015.
