Nearly 14,000 businesses established in first two months

Vietnam saw nearly 14,000 enterprises established in the first two months of 2016 with total registered capital of VND113 trillion (US$5.08 billion), up 1% in the number of businesses and 45.8% in registered capital compared to the same period last year.

The number of individuals to be employed by the newly established enterprises is estimated at over 198,000, representing a year-on-year increase of 0.7%, according to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO).

In February alone, more than 5,580 businesses were formed with total registered capital of VND53.8 trillion (US$2.42 billion), down 19% in the quantity of enterprises and up 17.3% in capital against 2015.

The GSO also reported that over 7,400 enterprises resumed operations in the past two months, up nearly 70% year on year. Meanwhile, enterprises terminating production activities reached nearly 2,200, a rise of 6.8% against last year, the majority of which were small-sized enterprises with registered capital of below VND10 billion (US$450,000).

More than 16,000 enterprises had to temporarily stop operations due to unresolved difficulties in the January-February period, up over 17% over 2015, with the figure for February alone at over 4,000.
