Minster Dung led a governmental working mission on November 21 to inspect the implementation of tasks set by the Government and the PM at the MOIT. Since the beginning of the year, the MoARD has been assigned a total of 503 tasks. It has completed 352 tasks while 128 remain unfinished.

Speaking at the working session, Minister Dung said that PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc appreciated the efforts made by the MoARD, particularly by Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong, in making breakthroughs in its development.

However, the PM also asked the MoARD to provide further explanations to clarify and set out measures to resolve seven major issues.

The first is the ministry’s agricultural restructuring work. Minister Dung said that the Government has issued policies to attract more enterprises to invest in agriculture; however difficulties remain with the use of land for production and credit access. In addition, the Minister asked the MoARD to pay much attention to markets for agricultural products, particularly the exports market.

The second issue is the improvement of the quality of natural disaster forecasting and the response to climate change, particularly after the damage caused by natural disasters such as droughts, saltwater intrusion and floods.

The third is with regards to the construction of new-style rural areas, especially transferring economic structure and improving the local people’s incomes, in addition to building infrastructure.

Fourth, the PM urged drastic measures to ensure food hygiene and safety, an urgent matter for society.

Fifth, the Government leader asked that the MoARD enhance the management of fertilisers and plant protection products, animal feed and veterinary medicines.

The sixth issue is work for the protection and development of forests. PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc has urged the closure of natural forests as well as clarification on the serious deforestation in Kon Tum and Quang Nam.

Lastly, the PM noted mechanisms supporting fishermen, including those in the four Central provinces affected by the damage to the marine environment caused by Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Company.

The head of the working group also emphasised that the PM and the people expect more efforts as well as radical long-term measures to solve existing problems.
