Vietnam heads list of ASEAN countries exporting to Canada

Vietnam continued to rank first among ASEAN countries in terms of high export revenue with Canada in the January-November 2016 period, according to the Vietnamese Trade Counsellor to Canada Hoang Anh Dung.

Thailand came in second with an export revenue of US$2.17 billion. It was followed by Malaysia with US$1.78 billion; Indonesia with US$1.13 billion, the Philippines with US$934 million, and Singapore with nearly US$664 million.

Between January-November 2016, two-way trade revenue between Vietnam and Canada reached nearly US$3.82 billion, up 10.6% over the same period in 2015.

Vietnam posted an export revenue of US$3.45 billion with Canada, up 16.4% over the same period in 2015 and an import revenue of over US$368 million, down 25% over the same period in 2015.

As a result, Vietnam enjoyed a trade surplus of over US$3.08 billion with Canada, an increase of 24.6% over the corresponding period in 2015.

Machinery and electrical as well as electronic equipment saw the highest growth in export revenue, recording US$1.17 billion, up 56.5% while the export of rubber products went up by 55.4%. In the meantime, the export revenue of footwear rose 15.5%, sports equipment increased by 25%, and children’s toys went up by 24%, among others.

Among electronic equipment, mobile phones recorded the highest increase in export revenue at US$827 million, up 67.9% over the same period in 2015.
