The initiative is based on a successful pilot model on tuna exploitation, purchasing, processing and consumption, employed between the Hung Thinh Limited Company, Phuong Dong fishery trading cooperative group, and 46 fishing vessel owners.

Composite vessel building for off-shore fishing, built under Government Decree No 67, is also enjoying robust growth as local fishermen and enterprises have realised the benefits of such vessels, especially in the tuna fishing industry.

Deputy Chairman of Vietnam Fisheries Society (VINAFIS) and Chairman of Khanh Hoa Fishery Association (KHAFA), Vo Thien Lang, said that investing in post-harvest preservation techniques for composite vessel fleets will help to increase the value of tuna production.

In general Khanh Hoa province has favourable geography and a strong capacity to attract both human and financial resources, increase the added value of aquatic products, and develop seafood, along with national sea and island defence and security, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
