Noticeable construction projects include, turning the municipal exhibition centre into an APEC press centre, upgrading the Tien Son Sports Palace in order to host the APEC gala dinner, and building roads to facilitate traffic. A new terminal at Da Nang International Airport has also been completed for this occasion.
Communications and English courses have been organised for public servants, while the “Da Nang Smile” campaign has been launched, with the aim of promoting a civilised lifestyle amongst residents in a bid to make each of them a cultural ambassador of the city.
Security preparations, including the prevention of fires and diseases, are underway.
Last year, the government allocated VND400 billion (US$17.9 million) from the central budget to support Da Nang’s preparations to host the 2017 APEC Summit.
During the week of November 6 to 11, the heads of state and CEOs from 21 APEC member economies will gather at the city for the key event of the APEC Year 2017.
