Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung acknowledged and appreciated the efforts made by Japanese investors in Vietnam, including those participating in the Vung Ang II thermal power project. As planned, the plant is expected to commence commercial operations in 2021. However, a number of obstacles still remain that have affected the progress of the project.

Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung said that the concerned parties should actively negotiate further in order to harmonise the interests of the State, people and investors.

The Government will create favourable conditions in which to encourage investors to apply modern technology, whilst protecting the environment and ensuring consistency among investors, he noted.

The Deputy PM has assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Finance and the Electricity of Vietnam to accelerate the review and find suitable solutions for the negotiations with investors.

For his part, Senior Vice President of Mitsubishi Corporation Yoshinori Katayama thanked the Vietnamese Government for their attention and facilitation in solving the difficulties, helping the relevant sides to accelerate the process of the construction and operation of the Vung Ang II thermal power plant.

With the direction and close attention of the Government, the two sides have overcome many bottlenecks in negotiation and many contents have reached agreement, he added.
