The two-day conference featured four sessions on topics relating to cooperation in human resource training, culture and tourism, along with issues concerning trade and investment. It attracted the participation of leaders of localities in Vietnam’s south central region and more than 100 Japanese businesses.

Addressing the event, MOFA Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung stressed that Vietnam-Japan relations have grown vigorously in all fields under mutual trust and the sprit of their bilateral strategic partnership status.

He emphasised that Japan has been established as a key partner of Vietnam, as Japan ranks first among ODA providers, the second in the total foreign investment, and the fourth largest trade partner of Vietnam.

Cooperation among localities has also fruitfully developed with 35 pairs of localities in the two countries have been established, he added.

He reaffirmed that MOFA will continue working closely with Vietnamese localities in order to seek more cooperative agreements with Japanese partners in the near future.

For his part, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Umeda Kunio said that Vietnam’s south central region has not yet fully tapped into its rich potential for tourism development. He called on further effort from the local authorities in the region to make their natural resources and tourist sites more attractive for Japanese visitors.

He also expressed hope that the Vietnamese local authorities will create more favourable conditions for Japanese businesses to operate in the localities.
