The three-day event has attracted the participation of over 70 domestic and foreign fisheries firms.

On display are farming equipment, fisheries feed and manufacturing equipment, and processing and packaging lines, among others.

Issues regarding the quality of fishery products, epidemic diseases, aquaculture technology, processing and export, markets, services and sustainable development will be discussed.

Several international conferences on aquaculture will also be held at the event for local and foreign experts and businesses to help them gain knowledge, share experiences, introduce new products and advanced technology, and discuss matters of concern to the industry.

According to the Vietnam Fisheries Society (VFS), aquaculture contributed 3% of the country’s gross domestic product in 2016.

The Mekong Delta region is a hub for the country’s fisheries sector, accounting for 70% of the total revenue from aquatic exports.

The export turnover of aquatic products has increased by 7.4%, reaching US$7.05 billion. The figure is expected to rise by 5% this year, hitting US$7.5 billion, 65% of which will come from local aquaculture.

The event, co-hosted by the Directorate of Fisheries, the VFS, the municipal branch of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the UMB Corporation, is expected to attract over 4,000 visitors.
