Vietnam has 29 domestic firms acting as Samsung’s direct suppliers

It has increased from just four in 2014 and 12 in June of last year.

These companies are supplying components to six Samsung factories in Vietnam including SEV Bac Ninh, SEV Thai Nguyen, SEHC, Samsung Display Vietnam, Samsung SDI Vietnam and Samsung Electro-Mechanics Vietnam.

The Korean company aims to raise the number of tier-1 suppliers in Vietnam to 50 by 2020.

Since 2015 Samsung has carried out a consultation programme to help local firms to improve their quality and recently another six Vietnamese companies that are participating in the programme have achieved good results in enhancing their quality and competitiveness.

Under the programme, Korean experts surveyed and assessed the Vietnamese enterprises for two weeks before working with them for ten weeks in order to improve their manufacturing process and meet Samsung’s standards.

For example, the Ho Chi Minh City-based Minh Man Printing company has significantly reduced the ratio of their product defects after joining Samsung’s consultation programme.

Minh Man Printing’s director said that the company will build another factory in 2018 to expand its production and improve its quality in order to effectively fulfil the requirements of Samsung and other foreign enterprise.

In 2017, Samsung also cooperated with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to further expand its corporate improvement consultation programme.

Shim Won Hwan, director of Samsung Electronics Vietnam, said that he expects the consultation programme to have wide-ranging impacts on Vietnam’s supporting industries.
