A ‘coffee space’ was arranged with around 30 pavilions, showcasing coffee and cocoa products from Central Highland and northern mountainous provinces as well as enterprises around the country.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Quoc Doanh said that Vietnam exported 1.78 million tonnes of coffee in 2016, earning US$3.4 billion, with roasted and instant coffee accounting for over US$300 million.
Coffee is one of the export agricultural products that make up a large share of Vietnam's exports, contributing to socio-economic development and poverty reduction in the country, particularly in the Central Highlands, he added.
According to Vice Chairman of Lam Dong provincial People’s Committee Pham S, the development of the coffee sector has created jobs for thousands of local people in the Central Highland region.
Last year, Vietnam was the world’s second largest coffee bean producer, after Brazil.
With a motto of "productivity, quality, value added for coffee beans," numerous seminars were held during Vietnam Coffee Day to seek solutions for the sustainable development of the Vietnamese coffee sector in future.
At the event, the organising board presented commemorative medals to the processors and cooperatives for their significant contributions to the development of the coffee sector.
Dak Nong province will host the second Vietnam coffee festival in 2018.
