The deal was signed on March 26 in the presence of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong, who is on an official visit to France, and President of the National Assembly of France Francois de Rugy.

Under the US$500 million contract, the French company will also provide spare engine access for Vietnam Airlines to guarantee the seamless continuity of its operations.

Vietnam Airlines CEO Duong Tri Thanh stated that the partnership with AFI KLM E&M will guarantee smooth operations for the carrier’s Boeing 787-9 aircraft and fleet in general, thereby strengthening its commitment to delivering a consistent 4-star quality service.

AFI KLM E&M Executive Vice President Anne Brachet said that the company is honoured and fortunate to be involved in Vietnam Airlines’ fleet renewal programme as the provider of component - and now engine - support for its fleet of 787s.

Vietnam Airlines and AFI KLM E&M have been working together for 25 years in aircraft maintenance and repair.

In 2015, the two companies agreed that AFI KLM E&M would provide component support for the Vietnamese carrier’s fleet of Boeing 787s.
