At the May 8 launch ceremony, VCCI General Secretary Nguyen Quang Vinh said that Vietnamese businesses need to change their mindset regarding sustainable development, instead of focusing on short-term profits, in order to integrate successfully into global supply chains.

This year, the two organisations will work with experts to establish a sustainable development standard.

In addition to the top 100 enterprises, others reaching the required standards will also be honoured as sustainable enterprises, the VCCI said.

According to the organisers, the corporate sustainability index (CSI) will continue to be used as a benchmark to measure the sustainable development level of participating enterprises.

Dao Thuy Ha from Traphaco, a drug maker, stated that the CSI provides a comprehensive assessment of enterprises in aspects such as the environment, energy, climate change, and labour, in addition to finance and capital.

She added that the three pillars of an enterprise are its effective and sustainable growth, environmental protection, and contribution to social development.

Last year the programme drew the participation of more than 500 enterprises operating in various sectors throughout the country.

The ceremony to honour sustainable enterprises in 2018 is expected to take place in Hanoi this November.
