Ho Chi Minh City reviews socio-economic development in first five months

According to the municipal Department of Planning and Investment, the city’s total retail sales of goods and services in the first five months reached VND422 trillion (over US$18.5 billion), an annual increase of nearly 12%.

Total budget revenue during the January-May period reached over VND154.3 trillion (over US$6.7 billion), equal to 41% of the estimate, up nearly 5% over the corresponding period last year.

The total export revenue of enterprises in the city was estimated at over US$14 billion in the first five months, an annual increase of 5%, whilst the index of industrial production (IIP) in Ho Chi Minh City picked up 6% annually in the first five months of this year.

In the field of agriculture, Director of the city Department of Agriculture Nguyen Phuoc Trung said Ho Chi Minh City has promoted agricultural extension activities and the application of high technology and biotechnology in order to create high value varieties. The value of agro-forestry-aquatic production reached over VND4.7 trillion, up 6% compared to the same period last year.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City’s Tourism Department, the total number of foreign arrivals was 3.18 million, a 32% increase, while tourism revenues were estimated at VND51.65 trillion, up 14.8%.
