The government official made the request while attending an economic forum on the production and consumption of lychees and key agricultural products in Bac Giang, held in the province on the morning of June 8.
The event also saw the presence of hundreds of Chinese enterprises, the Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, and leaders from the Department of Commerce of Guangxi province, which is a key export market of Bac Giang lychees.
Vice Chairman of Bac Giang provincial People's Committee Duong Van Thai said that this year's lychee crop boasts the highest quality ever due to the favourable climate, resulting in a bumper crop with good prices.
Deputy PM Hue said that the forum is an important initiative of Bac Giang to help develop its key agricultural products, while expressing his delight at the good quality and prices of lychees this year which is attributed to effective trade promotion activities before the harvest of the fruit.
He also suggested that Chinese Guangxi province creates favourable conditions for customs clearance for Vietnamese farm produce, including Bac Giang lychees, and called for Chinese enterprises to sign official purchasing contracts with local lychee firms and cooperatives to ensure the progress of the crop and value of the fruit.
The Government official asked Bac Giang to give heed to the planning of farming areas in accordance with the market demand in order to avoid supply-demand imbalances, in addition to promoting brand building and the processing of fruit to global standards.
Bac Giang is expected to harvest 150,000-180,000 tonnes of lychees this crop, with an average price of VND15,000 per kg.
