Vietnam’s agro-forestry and fisheries exports reach over US$19 billion in six months

Vietnam’s agro-forestry and fisheries exports were estimated at US$3.45 billion in June, bringing the total figure for the first half of 2018 to US$19.4 billion, up 12% compared to the same period of 2017, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The export revenue of major farm produce reached US$10.3 billion during the January-June period, representing an annual increase of 9.7%, while the export values of key fishery products and wood items were estimated to hit US$3.94 billion (up 10.5% annually) and US$4.33 billion (up 12.7% annually), respectively.

Vietnam has brought home US$1.81 billion from exporting 3.57 million tonnes of rice so far this year, up 12.5% in volume and 42% in value over the same period last year. Fruit and vegetable exports hit US$2 billion, up 20% year on year, while cashew exports were estimated to reach 175,900 tonnes and US$1.71 billion, up 16.7% annually in volume and 16.4% in revenue.

In the first six months of 2018, Vietnam registered a strong growth in exports to the markets of Indonesia (rice, coffee, rubber); China (fruit, vegetable, rubber, aquatic products); Germany (tea, aquatics, cashew nuts); Malaysia (rice, tea); Iraq, Hong Kong (China) and the Philippines (rice); Saudi Arabia (tea); the United States (cashew nuts, fruit and vegetables, rice); and India (rubber, pepper).

According to statistics, the major importers of Vietnam’s agro-forestry and fisheries products posted relative growth in revenues, with the Chinese market reporting a turnover of US$1.2 billion (up 18.1% annually), followed by the US (US$50.9 million, up 14.6%), Thailand (up 26%), the Republic of Korea (up 15.4%), and Japan (up 8%).
