This is the second year that Forbes Vietnam has ranked Petrolimex in the top 50, since the firm was first listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchanges on April 21, 2017.

With a total revenue of VND153.7 trillion (US$6.6 billion), Petrolimex paid a 30% dividend to shareholders on July 24, 2017.

Meanwhile, dairy producer Vinamilk topped the list of the most profitable companies at VND10.29 trillion (US$442.47 million) and property developer Vingroup was the largest company in terms of market capital at over US$15 billion as of May 15, 2018.

According to the magazine, the top 50 listed companies account for 70.8% of Vietnam's stock market capitalisation and reported a total profit of VND106.94 trillion (US$4.59 billion), up 34% over the previous year.

Nguyen Lan Anh, a representative from Forbes Vietnam said that the list of best-performing listed companies reflected the positive developments in the financial market, which has helped to increase the number of banks and securities companies on the list.

Important sectors, including real estate, construction materials, and logistics, are growing in a stable manner, posting a large number of firms on the list following the financial sector, Anh noted.

This year's list also showed the breakthrough of many large private companies including Vingroup, Hoa Phat, VPBank and Mobile World Investment Corporation.
