Construction commenced on September 2 on a grade-separated interchange worth VND1.5 trillion (US$64.5 million) in Hai Phong, expected to ease congestion along the northwest gateway to the northern port city.

The interchange is located to the south of the Binh Bridge and consists of three levels: an underpass, ground-level roads and a flyover system, the first of its kind in Hai Phong.

The underpass runs from Bach Dang Street under the railroad to Hong Bang Street, while the flyover splits into several branches.

The grade-separated interchange to the south of the Binh Bridge is expected to improve traffic conditions in the city’s northwest areas, helping to reduce the frequency of traffic gridlock on this important gateway.

The interchange is also expected to lead to an increased traffic flow over the Binh Bridge, making it easier to connect the area with National Highways 5 and 10 and with an urban area in future.

The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2019.
