Vietnam - Cambodia trade and investment promotion forum opens

A forum to bolster Vietnam-Cambodia trade and investment ties opened in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh, on September 14.

Speaking at the forum’s launch, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Vu Quang Minh said that from the beginning of the year, the ministries, branches, localities and enterprises of the two countries have closely coordinated and implemented important cooperation activities in all fields of politics, economics, culture, national defense, security, people exchange; helping to promote the friendship, tradition and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.

He said that Vietnam has become one of Cambodia's leading economic partners.

Currently, Vietnam has about 206 investment projects in Cambodia with a total registered capital of US$3.02 billion, placing it among the top five foreign direct investment countries in Cambodia. On the Cambodian side, there are 18 investment projects in Vietnam with a total value of US$58.1 million

Speaking at the forum, the Mao Thora, secretary of state at the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce, said that Cambodia has focused on simplifying procedures and welcoming investors. Currently, tourism, production for export, construction and agriculture are the areas that the government encourages businesses to invest in.

At the forum, representatives from the Council for the Development of Cambodia and the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce affirmed that economic, trade and investment cooperation with Vietnam is a priority for Cambodia. As a country with an open policy on trade and investment within ASEAN, Cambodia wishes to promote cooperation and increase bilateral trade with Vietnam.

At the forum, the organising board presented campaign medals to 11 Vietnamese businessmen who contributed to the community and gave certificates to many organisations and individuals, who have ranked among the top 100 Asian enterprises in 2018.
