Fair to enhance Vietnam – Cambodia trade cooperation

The 2018 Vietnam Trade Fair in Cambodia, themed "Friendship, Cooperation and Development", kicked off on November 7 at the Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Centre, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Co-organised by the Vietnamese Ministry of Defence, the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Cambodian Ministry of Defence and the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce, the fair aims to support Vietnamese businesses in promoting trade, investment and the export of products and services to the Cambodian market, while opening the possibility of exporting Vietnamese goods to ASEAN countries.

Covering an area of 10,000 square metres, the fair features 200 booths by more than 150 enterprises from Vietnam and Cambodia. The businesses are showcasing many products and services in the fields of telecommunications, banking, textiles, leather and footwear, handicrafts, food, processed food, electronics, mechanics, chemicals, building materials, fertilisers, plant seeds, animal feeds and veterinary products.

Under the framework of the event, from November 7 to 11, several exhibitions on the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia will be held.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Tran Don, Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Defense, emphasised that the fair was held on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of Cambodia's Independence Day (November 9, 1953 – November 9, 2018). On behalf of the leaders of the Vietnamese Ministry of Defense, the Deputy Minister sent congratulation to the Cambodian leaders and people.

At present, the bilateral trade ties between the two countries have reached US$ 3.8 billion, Deputy Minister Don said. At present, Vietnam has more than 200 enterprises, with around 206 investment projects, in Cambodia.
