NDO - A trade fair opened on November 15 in Phu Tho province to introduce Doan Hung pomelos and other agricultural specialities of the northern province.

The event features 80 booths showcasing Doan Hung pomelos, a variety of pomelo that has helped hundreds of local households escape poverty in recent years, as well as other pomelo varieties, oranges, mandarins and other agricultural products grown in the province.

Phu Tho Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Hai stated that the fair is an opportunity for localities in the province to promote their specialties, attract investment in agriculture and seek cooperation in business, trade and tourism.

According to Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong, Doan Hung pomelos and other pomelos have been granted geographical indications and are protected nationwide.

He added that Phu Tho province needs to capitalise on its agricultural advantages for further economic growth.

The total area dedicated to growing Doan Hung pomelos in Phu Tho province currently stands at more than 4,000 hectares, with an annual output of 25,000 tonnes and worth VND400-500 billion (US$17.2-21.5 million).

In several localities, the revenue from Doan Hung pomelos reaches VND300-600 million per hectare, helping to improve the income of local farmers.
