According to Vice Chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee, Le Thanh Liem, the event aims to expand the market for domestically produced commodities which have high quality, reasonable prices and huge potential for exports, while creating favourable conditions for the branding and development of market shares for the specialties of localities and regions.

It also seeks to boost connections between the typical industrial, supporting industrial and rural industrial products of cities and provinces, plus those eligible for exports, he said.

Director of the HCM City Department of Industry and Trade, Pham Thanh Kien, stated that, in the future, his agency will continue implementing measures to enhance trade cooperation between HCM City and the provinces, while working with other functional sectors to organise training programmes and guide farmers in terms of the VietGAP and GlobalGAP standard cultivation techniques and branding for local specialties.

Through implementing the cooperation programme between HCM City and the provinces in the 2016-2020 period, the localities supported and created favourable conditions for HCM City’s companies to invest, develop production, build factories and expand farms last year, in addition to building material areas, developing the distribution system, and ensuring a balanced supply-demand and market stability in HCM City and throughout the regions.

So far, the HCM City market stabilisation programme has attracted the participation of 90 businesses. These enterprises have invested in 42 factories and production establishments, and 72 cultivation farms in the Southeastern and Southwestern provinces, with a total investment capital of over VND30.112 trillion (US$1.29 billion), including the provision of VND3 trillion annually for animal husbandry and clean vegetable growing farmers.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Do Thang Hai, hailed the conference as a channel to promote and expand markets for Vietnamese goods nationwide, and to connect with exports channels.

He asked the HCM City Department of Industry and Trade, localities and businesses to synchronously implement measures aiming to enhance the effectiveness of connections in farm produce consumption, while closely combining the supply-demand connection programme and the market stabilisation programme to create stable sources of commodities at reasonable prices in order to provide for the market prior to, during and after the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) occasion.

At the conference, more than 306 memorandums of understanding on goods supply and distribution were signed between the parties.
